How to hire bookkeepers in London? Not all bookkeepers are equal. In the same way that not all businesses are the same. When hiring a bookkeeper/accountant to help your business it’s not about trying to find the most qualified & experienced accountant but rather someone who would be a good match with your business. Who will give his best, bring relevant experience suitable for your industry, size of business, someone who will fit into your organisational culture and comes with a lot of interest & energy to your business.
Here’s few points to consider in making your decision.
Budget and matching role with the person
The bookkeepers pay go anywhere from 20k-25k at the starting level to £60k-80k at the top range.
If your business can afford you may be tempted to go for the more experienced individual on a high pay but if the job is of junior level then it would potentially be a bad higher if you are matching a very experienced highly qualified person to a job role that doesn’t require such experience.
However, it is more common that businesses have a complicated role and they try to match it with a less experienced person at low budget.
You will have to see your accounts department as an asset for the business. A right fit will increase efficiency for your accounts department and save you from mistakes and extra time costs.
Recruitment
If you are not an experienced accountant yourself, it is best to get help of someone with experience e.g. a Finance Director who understands the accounting departments of a business, the tasks and people skills required. You’ll still need to be part of the process of hiring for couple of reasons; firstly, you’ll have to assess the personality match i.e. are you able to work with the person on day to day basis? Will that person be able to work with other team members?
Secondly, you know your business the best and you should be able to guide your team members when it comes to the business.
